Ribe Youth Development Association is a group of young people in Ribe, Kenya who are working together to improve opportunities for development in Ribe, Kenya with the support of people from as far away as Wisconsin, U.S.A.  Ribe (pronounced Ree-Bay) is a community in the Coast Province of Kenya, about 40 kilometers outside of Mombasa with a rich history as the site of the first Methodist mission in Africa.  While the community today faces many problems from poverty and poor health, the youth in Ribe are committed to fostering real, sustainable change.  We need your help to do so.

Ribe Primary Project on Course

Ribe Primary School received another boost of USD 10,000 towards the building of four modern classrooms.This donation came from Waukesha,  Wisconsin, USA to the community of Ribe through RYDA. Thanking them for the donation, the area councillor,  Councillor Titus Kattama, said he will ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget due to the current economic crunch felt across the globe. This project is funded by a Wisconsin family towards the education of children at Ribe.The school project will cost a total of Ksh.3.8 Million upon completion. Initial phase of the school project started in October 2008 with a donation of  Ksh.1.4 Million

 
Rev.Thomas Wakefield Church Nearing Completion

The Rev. Thomas Wakefield Memorial Church, Ribe, is nearing completion after getting donors from the USA. Highview Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Waukesha has so far donated USD 11, 000 towards the completion of the church. Thanking them on behalf of the community, the area Councillor, Mr. Titus Kattama,  who worked so hard to get the donation said " We as a community are extremely overjoyed by your generous heart towards our community at Ribe. This will go a long way towards establishing a long lasting relation with us, " said Councillor Kattama.  The Rev Thomas Wakefield Church was named after the pioneer Methodist Missionary and unsung Geographer of the late 1800s who toiled and worked at Ribe for 27 years.His wife Rebecca Wakefield  and infant son Bertie succumbed to fever and died 4 days apart, in 1873. They were laid to rest in the same grave at Ribe. Thomas Wakefield died in England in 1901.

 
RYDA Founder A Rising Star

The Ribe Youth Development Association founder was elected the Councillor of Ribe Ward. Councillor Titus Chai Kattama was given the mantle to head the Ribe community due to his vision for the people of Ribe.Councillor Titus Kattama was also elected as the Chairman of the crucial Finance Committee at the Kilifi County Council.He is a force to reckon in Kilifi district and has emerged as one of the best political sons of the coastal people. Councillor Titus Chai Kattama , a.k.a. "Tito" is someone to pay attention to in the political arena of Kilifi district due to his mobilization skills.
